Opportunities

Opportunities include fostering new creative partnerships, lifelong friendships and to collaborate with artists from other genres.

You may learn new skill sets while on tour, or develop entirely new acts. We have toured many artists and groups who ended the six weeks Gascoyne Travelling Arts Festival with entirely new acts, new musical sets, and new professional partnerships.

Music and filming may be done to support you to have new digital assets which capture your performances or new creative works while on tour.

You may collaborate with either touring or local artists.

Expectations

Gascoyne in May Inc trading as Creality expectations:

Your well being:

Nothing is more important than your well being and your relationships with those you love. Therefore we ask you to keep us posted sooner than later if you need time to rest, or time to attend to your relationships while on contract with us. We will adapt your scope of work to accommodate your needs.

Creality has a family-friendly policy -  meaning we will do our best to accommodate your children, family and partners on tour. This may mean we redirect some of your professional fees to cover extra childcare and accommodation (but only when budgets are tight!).

Smile Compass and your Scope of Work:

Creality has found that we get the best out of our artists and team when they LOVE what they are doing. We work on 70% Smiles and 30% grunt. If in your scope of work you have been asked to do something that makes you frown - please let the Executive Producer know! We will review your project deliverables to ones that make you smile.

That said, to make cool shit happen, like really cool shit, it can be a hassle. Early morning film shoots, weather events, long days and late-night bump-outs. That's what we do. Our team is multiskilled and everyone pitches in to make brilliant stuff into a reality. If you’re part of our team, be part of our team. We promise you will feel great once things are packed down and you have lifelong memories of adventures with your festival family.

We aim for 100% smiles with grunt… Because we are audacious, fierce and fun!

Code of Conduct:

Creality has written and verbal workplace policies which deal with a variety of matters concerning how the workplace operates, procedures to be followed and expectations in relation to particular aspects of the business. You must comply with all of Creality workplace policies, procedures and codes of conduct.

You must also comply with all applicable policies, procedures and codes of conduct of the venues at which you are required to work as though they were workplace policies of Creality directly.

At the beginning of your contract, there will be a face to face induction which will cover - expectations, safety and protocols and procedures while on tour or in contact with us. If you have any confusion or questions, please contact one of the core team members, or the Executive Producer directly.

There will be a weekly face to face meeting about our next festival where we can outline risks which need to be mitigated and the procedures to do so. It is at these meetings that we ask you to address any concerns or make suggestions on how we can better deliver festivals, events, film and workshops.

You must raise any concerns immediately if the risk is imminent. Our safety motto is ‘There is no ‘maybe’, it must be 100% safe or it's not happening’.  Please raise concerns with production or producers. If it's clearly unsafe ‘Stop the Job’ and address the issue.

You are required to be familiar with the content of all such policies, and to comply with their terms at all times. Any failure to do so may result in disciplinary action. If you are uncertain of where these policies are located or what obligations they impose, you have an express obligation to raise this with your Tour Manager, Stage Manager or Executive Producer.

You may request written clarification of any conflicts or disputes. Both Creality and yourself may request a third party to act as a mediator in the event of a conflict.

You must at all times conduct yourself in good manners when on tour with Creality. You must not undertake any criminal activity. If you are found to do so your contract will be terminated immediately.

You must not drive at night (unless it is an emergency).

Your safety and well being is Creality’s highest priority.

Travel

Tuesday is always a travel day (with the odd exception for mobilising from Mt Augustus tourist park), or in the event of an emergency.

The Tuesday Travel day is a full day to pack up, travel and resettle into next week's accommodation. It can often be a ‘big day’. On average we will travel 350km per leg of the tour.

There are 9 legs of our tour

  1. Muster in Denham, Shark Bay from your point of travel.

  2. Denham to Carnarvon 330km

  3. Carnarvon to Gascoyne Junction 170km

  4. Gascoyne Junction to Mt Augustus Tourist Park 350km (5 hour drive)

  5. Mt Augustus Tourist Park to Carnarvon  490km (7 hours)

  6. Carnarvon to Exmouth 370km

  7. Exmouth to Coral Bay 160km

  8. Coral Bay to Carnarvon 238km

  9. Carnarvon to home

We recommend

  • You pack a thermos and your favourite way to make coffee or tea. Make a thermos before you depart. There are no cafes on many legs of the tour, or they are over 200km apart.

  • You pack a 1-litre water bottle

  • Pack snacks

  • Good polarised sunglasses

  • Driving gloves for sun protection if you are the driver

Driving your own Vehicle

If you are driving YOUR Vehicle on tour

  • Check tyres (including the spare)

  • Check your jack and know how to change a tyre

  • Buy some tyre worms (google it)

  • Do not rely on phone range for navigation, so download all maps onto your phone. Better yet, buy a good old map!

  • Know the fuel range of your vehicle and use your odometer

  • be careful of how much you pack on your roof rack; a heavy load on top increases the chances of a roll-over

  • store water in small containers instead of one large tank; check all water containers for leaks; most towns have water but, at some places, you may not be able to get drinking water

  • bring matches or a lighter

  • pack a fire extinguisher

Outback Driving Notes

The Gascoyne is the size of the UK and is a giant paddock! It’s all pastoral stations and National parks… wide open spaces and the home to many animals!

  • There is often wildlife on the roads at all times of the day and night.

  • Creality has a company policy not to drive at night unless it is an emergency.

  • Have the person in the passenger seat look out for wildlife while you travel.

If you see wildlife:

Brake, don’t swerve.
Stay on the road - if at all possible.
If you see one animal - be alert for others. They often travel in packs! It can be the second kangaroo that hits you, not the first.

Don't swerve for birds
Goats are smart and don't run onto the roads unless they are kids
Emu’s are crazy
Kangaroos are kamikaze and can't jump backwards, (except for the one on the Australian Coat of Arms).

Where there’s cow poo, there are cows! Cows are the trees of the Gascoyne. If you hit one, it could kill you. And that’s NOT your story.

If at night, you see little shiny lights hovering in the middle of the road - that's a COW. Slow down!

If you're tired, pull over, rest, sleep, or do a handstand. One minute of being upside down is roughly the equivalent of ten minutes of sleep. It's all about oxygenating the brain. True!

Micro-naps while driving can kill you or someone else. Please pull over into a roadside parking bay and sleep.

If you do hit an animal

Stop. Look. If it's dead, pull it to the side of the road (but only if it's safe to do so).  If it’s really injured, run it over properly. Yes, this is horrific but it's what we do in the outback. A dead animal in the middle of the road is a hazard to other vehicles and animals, specifically Wedge Tail eagles which feast on road kill and inexperienced drivers speeding like demons who overcorrect their steering to avoid road kill.

Other drivers

Always look in your rear view mirror if swerving onto the other side of the road or doing an emergency stop. You'd be amazed how many times there’s suddenly another car overtaking you when you haven't seen one for days!

Wave at drivers when you pass them! It's rude not to, and it's the outback way of saying, ‘I'm awake at the wheel’, and ‘I will check on you if you’re broken down’. It's just what we do in the Gascoyne!

If you do see someone that has broken down. Slow down. Wind your window down just part of the way. Lock your doors, pull up alongside their car, suss them out. 99% of the time it's a good person in a shit situation. Check they have help on the way. If they do, ask if they have water and snacks. If they don’t share what you can. If they don’t have help on the way note where they are, and get a message to someone as soon as you’re in phone range.

If you don't feel safe doing this - DON'T!

Always trust your gut!
